Frequently Asked Questions
Who is responsible for smoke alarms in a rental property?
Smoke alarms in a rental property are the responsibility of your Residential Rental Provider.
They must arrange annual smoke alarm checks to test and replace any faulty alarms.
As a renter it is important that you do not tamper with any smoke alarms, and if the troubleshooting tips below do not solve a beeping smoke alarm you need to report it to Taskforce to be resolved.
Why is my smoke alarm beeping?
Modern smoke alarms are very reliable, however there are some environments that can still cause them to go off for no apparent reason.
These can be obvious such as burning toast, opening a hot oven or burning incense sticks, but other reasons include use of air-fresheners, aerosols, high humidity levels in a room and even small insects getting into the alarm.
A beeping smoke alarm also indicates that the battery needs replacing so if there are none of the factors above present then you should report the issue to Taskforce.
Is your smoke alarm still beeping?
If your smoke alarm still beeps intermittently this could mean that the battery is going flat and needs replacing.
Click the button to log your request and we will arrange installation of a new smoke alarm.
